Hi,

I've just received a copy of my latest letter which my rheumy nurse sends to my doctor and under the diagnosis section it says, seropositive erosive CCP positive RA. On previous letters my diagnoses was just RA so I'm a bit confused. Can anyone let me know the difference between the two diagnoses titles. I've googled and think seropositive RA could mean more damage later on.

Thanks, Louise

Hi Louise,

Anti-CCP is another marker for RA, and whether its the positive RF (rheumatoid factor) or the positive CCP factor,
either will eventually produce erosive joint damage. It is just the way they use their terminology in laboratories.
Some will use the word erosive, others wont. Some people are only positive to one of the tests, the view today is that
they feel the Anti-CCP test is slightly more accurate as a diagnostic test for RA. The RF test can be sometimes positive
especially in older people without them actually having RA!

RA is erosive, it will eventually damage joints sooner or later because it's a progressive disease.
So please don't think you have something else to contend with.

Hope that helps.

Thank you, Gogs. I read my letter & thought now what else is wrong! It's bad enough trying to work out and understand the other scores they give you Sad

I'm now having my B12 course of injections, 3 a week for 2 weeks so hopefully that will give me a boost...... Roll on the Spring RollEyes

Well done Louise,

I'm sure that you will start to feel a lot better once your B12 course has started to kick in.

Best wishes

Not all RA is erosive....I'm anti-CCP positive non-erosive RA and mine has luckily stayed non-erosive for several years now so although I get pain, inflammation and flares still there is little joint damage. My consultant says that there's now a good chance it will stay that way and not get erosive as I've responded well to the drugs. She explained to me that you can have any combination of sero-positive/negative, anti-CCP positive/negative and erosive/non-erosive and whilst there are theories about what type of RA each combination will produce it is still immensely individual so most important thing is to work out how it effects you rather than assume that you'll fit the theories.
